Pink October 2024 - breast cancer prevention month
Together for women's health and raising awareness about breast cancer
October is not only the month when nature turns into autumn colors, but also the time when the world turns pink to collectively remind us of the importance of prevention and early detection of breast cancer. "Pink October" is an international month for raising awareness about this serious disease and precisely on October 15th, known as Breast Health Day, unites 47 countries in a pan-European initiative.
This year's campaign focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle and oncological control. Mammographic screening is among the most effective tools for early diagnosis and prevention. During Pink October, we focus on spreading information about prevention and encouraging women not to neglect regular check-ups.
Pink-lit buildings across Slovakia will remind us that breast health care should be a priority for every woman. Last year, verified mammographic screening workplaces achieved significant successes and we firmly believe that this year will be even more successful.
We actively emphasize the importance of mammographic screening, its implementation, and benefits for women. Early diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment of breast cancer. Mammographic screening allows us to detect the disease in its earliest stages, significantly increasing the chances of complete recovery.
We urge all women not to underestimate the importance of regular check-ups and to actively take care of their health.
Cooperation with Ministry of Health SR
In cooperation with the Ministry of Health SR, National Oncology Institute, health insurance companies and patient organizations our common intention and goal through amendment to Act No. 577/2004 Coll., On scope of health care:
- to extend mammographic screening to women aged 45-75 who have an age-related increased risk of breast cancer,
- to implement organized screening for breast carcinoma in women at risk of hereditary type breast cancer,
- to make the provided health care more effective by ending the reimbursement of ineffective preventive sonographic examinations of breasts in young women without a risk history aged 20-40.
